Coron is home to some beautiful beaches (you have to take a boat to nearby islands to visit the beaches), so being a tourist hotspot, it would make sense for vegan options to be available. But for such a small location, I was surprised. Levine’s Restaurant, like much of Coron Town Proper (the city center / downtown area of Coron) is a little run down. But it offered many vegan options, so I had lunch there. It’s run by 2 ladies. The restaurant has a rooftop bar / patio, but the spiral staircase makes it a treacherous climb. I had a craving for a burger and opted for the “Vegan Burger”. According to the menu, it’s designated as “vegetarian”, but was assured by one of the ladies that it is indeed vegan. On the menu, the pink symbol denotes a vegan dish; the green symbol denotes a vegetarian dish. The patty was fried eggplant, and it was topped with hummus (an unexpected topping), lettuce, tomato, onion and cucumber (not pickle). This was much healthier than your typical burger. The hummus made it extremely messy as it oozed out with every bite, but it was soooo good. Fries came with the burger. I was hoping for more than what I had received, but that’s ok. Service was a little slow (by North American standards), but I wasn’t in any hurry. And the ladies were friendly. The Vegan Burger with fries was 370 pesos (about $9 Cdn). I would definitely recommend this restaurant.
