#boonburger #veganpoutine #veganisnotscary I decided to visit another restaurant this Easter weekend to use another 2 coupons from Toronto’s First Ever Plant-Based Deals Book (https://instagram.com/thisisplantcurious?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y=). Today, I went to Boon Burger Café. In addition to a couple Greek Burgers and a couple complimentary soft serves (thanks to the first coupon; both were just reviewed), my brother and I shared an order of Same Old Poutine. With the second coupon, we were supposed to have gotten an upgraded size of poutine, but due to a recent change in ownership, there’s only one size now. So the lady behind the counter offered to comp the poutine. I thought that was very generous of her. 😊 As the name of the poutine implies, it was standard in toppings (vegan cheese, green onions and gravy). It was very good, but I think it could have used more green onions and vegan cheese. And the gravy just dropped to the bottom of the bowl; the top fries were not that wet. But the bottom half of the fries were wonderfully soaked! I indicated above that there’s been a recent change in ownership at this restaurant. It’s decided to offer vegetarian options (☹️) but according to a lady I spoke to there, the default is vegan unless the customer asks for the vegetarian option (regarding cheese only, I think). This seems to contradict what’s written in the menu. Vegan guest beware! Regardless of this decision, I hope the restaurant succeeds / survives as it does offer good tasting vegan foods. Hopefully its dairy cheese just stays in the fridge and doesn’t find its way into customers’ orders. Also, I hope they don’t expand their vegetarian options either. The aforementioned lady came over to our table to check to see if everything was ok; this never occurs in a casual restaurant like this. I appreciated this effort. I’d return to support the vegan side of the menu.
