Plant-Based Ham Style Roast with Amber Ale Glaze

A part of my haul from Good Rebel over winter. I just needed to go ham - vegan ham - and splurge on myself with tons of vegan goodies. It was one of my rewards for working with little rest. The flavour and texture is amazing. I love the amber ale glaze. I paired this with some succulent asparagus and some garlicky potato turnip mash with some Japanese sweet potato in the mix. OMG!! Is all I can say. Tofurkey knocked this one out of the park with their Plant-Based Ham Style Roast!! This was my first time having this particular product. I have to be honest, it was slightly triggering because the look, taste, and texture was exactly like it’s cruel counterpart. I had to keep asking myself, “How is this vegan?” It was THAT good!! The downsides to this product are cost ($22.99) and it contains wheat so it’s not gluten-free. Considering this will only be for special times throughout the year, it’s a bit more manageable. Hopefully the cost will come down in the near future. I highly recommended it if you haven’t already tried this. From now on it will be a staple at our family celebrations! I purchased this ham roast on clearance last year after the holiday season and finally prepared it recently. It is quite nice and tastes pretty much the same as what I remember their ham slices tasting like (minus the glaze). It is very savory and salty. It is a bit smokey but not overly so. The glaze is sweet and syrupy and very good. It was incredibly difficult for me to get the plastic seal off of the roast. In one way I suppose that is good - as it was sealed well - but it was a struggle to get going, which can throw a wrench in a timed-out meal for a gathering. It was easy to prepare besides the wrapping issue. If you enjoy seitan and their deli slices, I’d say this could be a good option for a small gathering, as there are five servings per roast. Leftovers are good for sammies, but I prefer the thin slices of their deli meat, so if I had a hankering for this flavor, I’d just go with the deli meat, provided I could find it. I did not like the original Tofurky Roast with Stuffing but my daughter convinced me to try this Ham Style Roast with Glaze. It was hard to find in Southwest Ontario but it was worth the search. This will now be my go-to veg roast for holiday dinners. Great flavour but pretty pricey. Leftovers were quickly eaten up the next day. Even my son who eats meat was really impressed with the taste. I’m glad I was able to find it!

I’ve been wanting to try this Ham Style Roast from #Tofurky and so glad I did!! I bought frozen from #marianos and thawed in fridge 1 day before. Removed the plastic and netting from the roast, put in the instant pot with a 1/2 c of water at the base and the roast on a rack so it doesn’t touch the water 💦 . I cooked for 9 min on high and let release naturally for about 10 min. Removed it, cut in 1/2 and placed in airfryer (poured on the glaze) and cooked for about 10-15 min on 370. Basting 1/2 way through. It turned out amazing! 🙌I really like this plant based ham because it’s basically seitan style and I love ❤️ seitan!!
