Organic Firm Tofu

I love that my local Costco carries four packs of both soft and firm tofu! I've been really enjoying putting the tofu scramble that @jonok makes with firm tofu on toast. This morning, he made a scramble with broccoli, onion, tomato, herbs de provence, and mozzarella & parmesan from Trader Joe's. It was really great on top of toasted Dave's Killer Bread with a drizzle of olive oil, grated Rebel Cheese parmesan, salt, black pepper, and red pepper flakes. #breakfast #tofu #tofulover #tofuscramble #veganeggs #eatyourveggies #turmeric #costco #vpantry #veganstaples

Crispy tofu. I use cornmeal only this go around and it was crunchy and good. The sauce on the side is Thousand Island, I found at Petes Fresh Market.

Although it’s fun to mix things up and try innovative new protein sources, I think nothing beats the simple, time-honored perfection of #tofu. You really can do so much with an unassuming slab of soy — scrambles, stir-fries, even dessert! This #organic firm tofu is comparable in price to the individual tubs sold at Trader Joe’s, but it takes up a fair amount of fridge space, as it’s sold in a set of four individual boxes (Costco.) If you’re the type to go through tons of the stuff, it’s a good opportunity to stock up. There’s nothing about this brand in particular that really stands out, but like all tofu, it’s affordable, dependably sold in many grocery stores, and so versatile. It is firm enough that I can use it as-is, but the standard size also fits perfectly in my tofu press (a holiday gift to myself that just keeps on giving!) when I want to eliminate the water for a more dense and robust texture.

One of my go-to #vegan groceries is #tofu, which is a staple of #chinese and #korean cuisines. Buying #organic tofu 🌱 also ensures that it is not only free from pesticides, but also is not made from GM soybeans that can contribute to deforestation (although close to 90% of GM soybeans are grown to feed animals on farms rather than humans).
