Summary
Welcome to UC Berkeley! UC Berkeley was founded in 1868 and serves as the flagship institution for the University of California system. Located near Silicon Valley and San Francisco, Berkeley is known for its extensive research, large diverse community, and political activism.
UC Berkeley students and Berkeley residents tend to be very socially and environmentally conscious--thus, many have caught on to the benefits of healthy, plant-based eating. The food scene here reflects that trend, and often spearheads the movement, as evidenced by innovative food businesses. Our school is located in an urban environment--step one foot off-campus, and you’ll find yourself surrounded by the bustle of eateries, creameries, gourmet restaurants, to-go restaurants, tea shops, and coffee shops within Berkeley’s quirky city life. Thus, you’ll find that our guide may be structured differently than what you might be used to. We’ll explain more of that later!
As for us, we’re four friends and undergraduate students who enjoy eating healthy, sustainable, and equitable food. Although we are not vegans or vegetarians, we limit our meat intake and thrive to live alongside the same mission that abillionVeg upholds. This guide features a small snapshot of plant-based options in Berkeley. We hope that you enjoy our guide and use it explore Berkeley’s rich array of food options.
