This salad is described as having ‘vegetarian soy codfish (soybean oil, seaweed, mushroom), green mango or green apple (seasonal), onion, chilli, lime, lemongrass, mint, kaffir lime leaf, and cashew nut.’
When getting this delivered it came disassembled in three separate boxes for freshness. The ‘codfish’ pieces seemed to be wrapped in nori to replicate a ‘skin’ and the fishy flavour, which I think they achieved very well. The texture was actually flakey like fish too, so much so that I expected to pull a small bone out of my mouth at any minute! They were on the dry side at first, but once they had been mixed and sat in the salad dressing for a while, they were ok. The dressing in question was nice and spicy just how I ordered it, with a refreshing and sweet tang. The salad part was about 90% green apple slices and TINY, with about five cashews and three of the thinnest slivers of red onion in it. There was so little salad it all fit in a puny single-serve rice box and I felt so ripped-off that that was it even though I wasn’t the one paying for it. They need at least DOUBLE the amount of salad here to even call this a main meal let alone charge $23 for it. Better get an entrée and rice too if you want to feel something in your stomach after this 😓 The whole thing mixed together was absolutely delicious but just too small.
I ordered this in a delivery order with two other omnivores and none of the boxes came labelled, so it took a while to work out how many parts this salad came in and if they were indeed part of the vegan salad. How hard is it to quickly write ‘VG’ in a marker on a box lid, really? Especially in a mixed meat and vegan order like this one? 🤷♀️
