Made with flaxseeds, cinnamon and brown sugar. Served with seasonal fruit and hash browns, but will also be served with eggs and a side of non-vegan butter unless you tell them not too, so be careful. We were lucky that our waiter asked us how we like our eggs, so we were able to tell him to leave that out. We explained how we are vegans, and he seemed to understand, commenting that we’re “hard-core,” no meat, dairy, and eggs. We forgot to ask about butter though, so that still came with it. We knew in advance though that we were taking a risk with “danger” territory by stepping into a non-vegan restaurant with rarely any vegan options, and this is a new offering. However, our waiter was super friendly, more than the norm. He gave us an extra bowl of fruit, and then later on, a salad with vinaigrette. Even though my friend and I split our pancake meal, which came with 2 good-sized pancakes, it was a very generous portion as is, and even half was more than what we usually eat for dinner, so we were more then fulfilled, but our waiter wanted to make sure we had enough.

The pancakes are one of the better pancakes I’ve had (even compared to the non-vegan ones I used to have). I love some of the little crunch from the 9 grains and flaxseeds. As a bonus, it’s also light and fluffy. It came with a bottle of corn syrup. I would have preferred maple syrup, but for the affordable price, corn syrup is a decent substitute. Overall, it was a good pancake and we didn’t feel like we missed out on the butter. My dad likes Denny’s though, so there’s a good chance I’ll be back someday and split this with him, so next time, I’ll plan ahead and bring some of Miyoko’s butter.

For fruit, we got pineapple, which my friend really liked with the pancake, cantalope, and grapes. I would have especially liked berries to go with the pancakes, but I appreciate any fruit to balance out a pancake meal.

The hash browns were okay, but not the best. Kind of thin and not as crispy as I’d prefer, but I’m glad this comes with it.

If you like pancakes and are okay with the possibility of cross-contamination, consider supporting Denny’s on #NationalPancakeDay on Sep 26 with this Plant-Based Pancake Slam, and just be sure to ask for no eggs and butter. Maybe they’ll someday expand their vegan offerings.

Interesting! I’d be wanting to take some vegan butter too.
