I’ve noticed that my favorite gluten free Chik’n nuggets I previously reviewed are no longer being made (gluten free) by Dr. Praeger’s anymore. I’m unsure why. They were certainly a hit over here. But in spite of that, they’ve come up with some new veggie burgers. This happens to be one of two types of crunchy burger, where the outside has a coating of firm pieces of crispy brown rice.
It’s an interesting concept, adding a textured contrast to a soft veggie burger. I did like the combination of veggies in this one: sweet potato, black beans, onions, spinach, turnip and collard greens. I didn’t really notice a barbecue flavor, but did feel a subtle kick of the spices used.
Each box contains 4 individually wrapped burgers. The nutritional part that each (71g) burger provides is as follows: 160 calories from 7g of fat, 23g of carbohydrates and 3g of protein. For me, it would be even better if they could increase the protein content a bit more.
I purchased these on sale last month from Whole Foods for around $4.49, normally it’s $5.69. You can also find these at ShopRite for $5.29.
