I chose #Slizza Herbie pizza, beer dough, tomato and basil sauce, vegan mozzarella, rosemary, thyme, basil infused aubergine and zucchini. It was a hearty meal which I really enjoyed, working away from home. I didn’t pick up as much on the herbs as I’d have liked, I think they could have added some of them fresh after baking. The vegan mozzarella was quite an oily gloop but I preferred that to a too acidic tomato sauce that some pizzas have. There were plenty of chunks of aubergine and zucchini. The dough was perfectly crisp around the edge and soft and chewy everywhere else.
St Canna’s is an Ale House, unashamedly grungy, welcoming and serving a good selection of beers and wines and providing a wide selection of pizzas that you order online, but are made on the premises.
There are 8 vegan options ranging from £10 for a 9inch pizza up to £18 for a 12inch. There’s a whole list of additional toppings to choose from. I was pleased I went for extra jalapeños which gave mine a real hot kick. Also pleased it was presented in a recyclable cardboard box.
If you’re visiting or resident in the Canton district of Cardiff, this is a very convivial bar to spend a bit of time. I happened to be there on an open mic night called Elevator Club, which welcomes a broad spectrum of artists, musicians, poets, magicians.
