FRESH & CREAMY LOW SWEET COCONUT YOGHURT
I guess all products from Abbot Kinney’s must have been reviewed hundreds of times … ;-) This brand is very popular over here in organic stores.
Taste/bite: I like it. Mango flavour without the sweetness overdose you’d associate with that fruit. The yoghurt itself is thick and creamy.
Ingredients: Organic. Few ingredients. Basically coconut milk, mango puree and some tapioca and guar gum as thickeners plus yoghurt cultures. Compared to soy yoghurts this one contains a lot of fats (14 g 100 g) but coconut oil/fat is a relatively healthy fat if eaten in moderation. Poor in protein, (only 1,0 g per 100 g) which is a bit deceptive as one might eat yoghurt for the protein sake ...
The amount of mango used is unclear, however. On the outside it says 17%, in the table with the ingredients it says that a mango puree is added of which 17% is mango … But OK that’s maybe because I am so keen to find precision in data.
The four ferments (bacteria) used to make this coco yoghurt are specified on the label.
Shape/Conditioning: 400 ml / 375 g plastic cup with aluminium lid and detachable cardboard wrap around label. The differents parts can be easily separated for selective waste collection and recycling. Marketed/sold as vegan.
Price: I paid 4,22 € (January 2023), for a total volume of 400 ml. Not cheap, more expensive than the organic soy yoghurts but of overall good quality.
When products like these are a bit more expensive, I make them last long! In the last picture, I added this coco start as one of the toppings of a dark green smoothie.
The name sounds oh so British but they seem to be part of a Dutch food group (Wessanen Benelux).
