if you are craving something warm on a rainy grocery stop, this will be the one. i’m not gonna lie, we went in for the pizza, but they were all sold out of the vegan ones (i mean good on everyone else for buying them but bad luck in our case) so we strolled over to the burrito bar. i got a bowl with brown rice, black beans, crispy fried veggies, chipotle tofu, pico, guac (which isn’t extra!!), red onion, cilantro and lettuce. my friend got a burrito, and the spanish rice instead but she said not to bother because it wasn’t any flavour change. but we both appreciated how they used the same portions for the burrito as the bowl, because usually at burrito places the bowls get 3 scoops and the burrito gets 1, if you know you know. the rice was nice and fluffy - with nothing added to it which was nice because it didn’t weigh it down at all, but i mean rice is rice so a little salt or something even would have been nice. the black beans were mashed which i prefer to whole, the crispy fried veggies were the star. unlike chipotle (just for comparison) they were crunchy and cooked perfectly. best part of the bowl. the pico wasn’t spicy at all and they were sold out of their medium salsa… oh well. the red onions were a nice addition as well as the guac, and the cilantro was generous which i really liked. and the chipotle tofu was in cubes, with the sauce on top and marinated which i wasn’t expecting, i was expecting a crumble consistency but i really liked that, it gave some texture amongst the beans, rice and veggies. overall, it was a bit lacking in flavour compared to chipotle or other mexican places because they don’t use a lot of spices, so it is really just the flavours individually with minimal spice. i would defined try it with the medium salsa, and it would’ve amped it up a lot. i didn’t find it was incredibly filling since it was a big bowl, and a lot of food, but i had just come from a workout so who am i to judge. actually that’s such a lie it was filling. but not stuffing like chipotle… which i guess is for the better. it was only $9 for the big bowl so pretty decently priced and i was pretty happy with it, and i preferred some of the ingredients and prefer other places for others so it’s a toss up. maybe a bit more seasoning and this is gold but i think if they do that, then i’d go there instead of chipotle. not disappointed at all and whole foods has the best food of the grocery stores. #veganisnotscary
