What a beauty. Kueh Bubur Cha Cha is a modern spin on bubur cha cha (Straits Chinese dessert of sweet potato and taro chunks in coconut milk). This looked so properly, purplely ethereal... and sadly the glutinous kueh texture wasn't as bouncy as I've come to expect of Harrianns' kueh quality. The sweet potato chunks were delightful though.

Surprised this was vegan since this variety of tapoica kueh usually contains egg. It was also surprisingly ho-hum. Though I'll probably remember it as my first #accidentallylevitating kueh #callitmagic #sgvegan

Back at HarriAnns since they confirm there's no cochineal in the red food dye used for the kueh. But it was pretty lacklustre this morning - stiff glutinous shell and the oil tasted off. Could also be that this Bugis outlet is al fresco (their ang ku kuehs aren't in chillers) #sgvegan

Unlocked a new #accidentallyvegan dish at my go-to haven for #vegan kueh: glutinous rice! Chatted casually with the staff and realised there are no lard or dried shrimps in this traditional recipe. Just omit the sambal chilli. I opted for a mix of sweet (top) and savoury (blanketed in fried shallots) rice - portion is huge.. that's the most rice I've ever eaten in a while! Set comes with choice of drink and mini kueh/ ondeh-ondeh with burst-in-mouth gula melaka. Appreciated this one because it's so unusual for a no-shrimps version, but will probably return for the kueh alone. #stickyrice

Sorry the pic is blur. The dessicated coconut is pretty plain, I think they didn't put salt in it. But all four flavours stand out on its own. I'm pretty sure the orange one on the left is sweet potato, not sure the purple one but it has a red bean taste. The gula melaka one is the BEST. Then the tapioca one is not my favourite out of the 4.

There's Kueh rainbow Lapis (top left), Kueh Talam (middle bottom), Kueh salat (bottom left; saw from another post that this is not vegan but there's other ppl who post about it so, please take note), Kueh bubur cha cha (top right), Kueh chendol (bottom left) and I don't know what it's called but there's corn in it (middle top). Worth it, it's very yum. I DIDNT CHECK IF ALL OF IT IS VEGAN/PLANTBASED COS ANXIETY 👍SO PLEASE CHECK IF YOURE REALLY STRICT ABOUT IT.

this was supposedly the best ondeh by Nonya standards, according to my mum. but I found it quite average and comparable to Bengawan Solo’s version, smaller and with hard gula melaka (palm sugar) that didn’t burst in your mouth as you ate. I would definitely still place this higher than most ondehs cause you can tell they used real pandan leaves and good hula, but you can get a cheaper and more accessible version from any Bengawan branch.

I love this. omg. I’ve never tried this kueh before but it’s soooooo good the consistency is like glutinous rice but with sago pearls and coconut flakes!! and the layers are flavoured with bandung, pandan and what seems to be more coconut flavour in the middle. This restaurant gets the seal of approval from my very very picky Nonya mother for their kuehs 👏🏼and they are really affordable too!
