No Pork Belly Bao Buns

Didn't think i'd like these as bao buns look like soggy pitta bread but they were really nice and so were the pretend pork belly and sauce.

I’m undecided on these because the “crackling” was surprisingly realistic but I wasn’t impressed with the “meat” part. It’s hard to describe, it sort of fell apart in my mouth but then was surprisingly dense and hard to chew. It comes with a very generous sachet of sauce which was good for me because I made a mess (make sure you line the baking tray!) I would probably get these again for the novelty value if they were on offer, but not at full price

How cute is this?? The presentation is really fun and the texture of the “pork belly” was very appetising. It was crumbly like soft crackling and the buns were super light as you’d expect. The only reason I didn’t give 5 full stars was the sauce. It had a very strong aniseed taste, if you like that sort of thing, you might enjoy. I’d make my own sauce next time. Excellent light lunch or side dish for dinner. Thank you Sainsbury’s! ⭐️
