Dark Chocolate with Sea Salt & Almonds

#endangeredspecies #chocolate is one of my favorite brands of chocolate! 😍🍫 It was #sweet, a little #salty, and a bit #crunchy from the #almonds. I love that each flavor of chocolate supports a different endangered animal and includes facts about them! This flavor supports the Eurasian Eagle Owl, which are rebounding and recovering. Their population is stable, compared to when they were in the 20th century. My Dad is a huge chocolate feen. Especially dark chocolate. It was always somewhat of a tradition to pick him up a dark chocolate bar when I was at the grocery store. This brand was always cool to me, and I loved the concept of giving back to endangered species and I used to love the pictures of the animals. However, 10 + years later, from when I started getting these bars, I, of course, realize that there's much more surrounding chocolate when it comes to ethics. There are several different flavors of bars. This one has roasted almonds for a nice crunch and sea salt that enhances the chocolate flavor. It's also non- gmo and 72% cocoa. They have great packaging as well, so they make perfect little gifts. Most of their products are certified vegan, but some also contain dairy. I do wish they'd drop the milk chocolate bars or utilize plant milks. The vegan in me can't help but notice some contradictions on their website when they speak of being against exploitation and wanting to help animals. I wish they'd extend that compassion to cows as well. This brand also states that they are committed to fair trading practices while supporting local farmers in West Africa, and they do not employ child labor. Overall, I would recommend this brand. This is a firm salted dark chocolate with bits of almond pieces. It is quite good, and comparable to the Taza one in taste. What I like about this company is that they donate 10% of their net profits (over $2.6 million as of 2016) to impactful organizations that ‘positively affect species, habitat and humanity across the globe’ to include the Wolf Conservation Center, located in Sourh Salem, NY. Nutritionally, 1/3 of a bar (28g) will give you 170 calories from 11g fat (6g saturated fat from cocoa butter and almonds), 14g carbs and 3g protein. You can purchase this from ShopRite and Target for $2.99, or Stop & Shop and Whole Foods for $3.29. The sea salt makes this chocolate delicious! Nice with the almonds too. Fair trade & with 10% of net profits going to saving wildlife.
