AVIS LES PLUS UTILES

Another dish we tried at Veggie Lee was the Vegan Beef Chow Fun (the dish

is normally 干炒牛河 in Chinese, but they’ve made a play on words by subbing out the character for “cow.”) I love the texture of wide #noodles and order them whenever the opportunity arises. They were stir-fried in a simple soy-based sauce along with cabbage, shredded carrots, and the typical beef-style TVP slices that you find at almost all #chinese vegetarian restaurants. It wasn’t the most flavorful I’ve had, but this place is #alliumfree, so I cut them a little slack.

As you can probably tell, it was very #sweetdreamsaremadeofgrease (but I would probably look down on any rendition of this dish that wasn’t oily!) My friend (who hasn’t actually ever had beef before) didn’t have an issue with the #fakemeat, only that he felt there was too little of it. He had a point — the portion was generous, but they were a bit sparing with the protein. We both felt it lacked the “wow” factor, but perhaps that’s what I get for playing it safe on my first visit.

This dish was $15.95. We shared and had leftovers, so it could probably be split comfortably among a larger party. It wasn’t bad, just not something I’d order again, only because it wasn’t terribly exciting. I get the feeling that many more-flavorful dishes are waiting to be discovered in the pages of this #veganrestaurant’s exhaustive menu.
