This was my favorite dish out of all the ones we tried at Izakaya Masaka, a fully vegan Izakaya in Shibuya. Karaage is a frying technique, and karaage often refers to a dish of fried chicken, in this case however it was a vegan meat alternative that had been fried. The texture was really crunchy and the taste very savory, the yuzu mayo was really the chef kiss as it combined perfectly giving the dish a nice tanginess. Deep fryed soy meat (karaage) with a tangy citrusy creamy sauce and cabbage. What a perfect appetizer/small plate to have with a few drinks! This came out piping hot and was super crispy. They have several sauces you can pick from. I really enjoyed this and would highly recommend. I also tried the mapo tofu which was so hearty and everything on their vegan menu looked amazing! Their are photos of each dish inside the restaurant on the wall which was really helpful for ordering.
