VEGAN

Bobo's

New product! This #snack was released just a few months ago. It bears a passing resemblance to Uncrustables (which I have never had before, though I believe they’re accidentally vegan.) In practice, however, this was more of a jam-filled soft-baked oatmeal cookie. Though I’m not the biggest fan of Bobo’s products, I continue to try them since I like the company’s ethos. Their products are mostly vegan (a few contain honey;) they’ve also invested in #sustainable wind-powered production and are partnered with organizations involved in a range of social causes.

This PB&J was sticky and sweet, and it did sort of remind me of the classic sandwich, although the #peanutbutter flavor was far too muted for me. For some reason I thought it would be inside — with the jelly — but it’s instead baked into the crust, where it imparts only the faintest suggestion of peanuttiness. Even the grape jelly struggles to stand out as distinctly grape. As usual, Bobo’s greatest strength is its tasty whole grain oat crust (which also happens to be #glutenfree,) but its biggest weakness is the excessive amount of added sugars. You’re better off just making your own sandwich when the PB&J craving hits — it’d probably be cheaper, healthier, and a lot more satisfying.
