Review of Dragon Breath's Hor Fun at EMPRESS by iluvnippon

A fancy name for an otherwise standard local fare.

Our first impression was "Wow, S$20 for fried kuay teow?!" and had to find justification for the price.

Okay, they added the Impossible Meat, it is a posh fine dining restaurant at a prime location in the city centre, they probably have high overheads, etc. After convincing ourselves, we took the leap of faith and ordered the dish.

The presentation of the dish was on par with its price, and the fried kuay teow was totally delicious. There was also a generous serving of Impossible meatballs, much more than we expected, which was a pleasant surprise.

The fried kuay teow had strong "wok hei" (stir fry fragrance) and crunchy bean sprouts and leek gave the dish a refreshing zesty punch.

The volume was good too, not the pathetically tiny portions that one usually get at posh restaurants.

Considering the availability of a vegan dish like this, the generous serving of Impossible meatballs and fried kuay teow, and the impeccable ambience of the restaurant (high ceiling, nifty decoration and ample natural lighting), we have to say the dining experience was great, and perhaps the price is somehow justified.

Suitable for high SES folks (regular dining), low SES folks (once-in-a-while celebrative occasions), wow-ing foreigner vegans (who want to try a vegan version of a typical local dish), and business meals for guests (under company account).

That said, we are still highly appreciative of the effort by Prive Group to provide delicious vegan dishes. They are one of the first that comes to mind when we want to introduce people to delicious vegan food. Keep up the good work!

iluvnippon @lou if you're okay with the pricing, we definitely encourage you to try. Also order their Impossible Gyoza too. That one was heavenly, albeit a little pricey too.Reply
arunnersfuel this looks great! Awesome that the price is justified :) Reply
iluvnippon @arunnersfuel definitely not something we can afford on a regular basis, but the dining experience was really good. So perhaps the price was somehow justified.Reply
