These chickpea brownies are a dense, healthier dessert. They're gluten free, so they're pretty heavy. I like the chocolate chip cookies more. This is a nice burger option from The Hungry Caterpillar. The burger is soft, but the spelt sourdough slices are big enough to contain it. It also has cashew cheese, red onion, tomato, pickles, and a house sauce. We added microgreens for an extra charge. This is overall just a nice healthy sandwich option. The Hungry Caterpillar is such an odd place. It has great food! But it is in a building that doesn't seem like it should be a restaurant! It's in a strip mall and is connected to an odd doctor's office. It's also in front of a few cosmetic businesses. The windows have a blue film over them, so there's this weird blue light throughout the front of the building (I had to edit it out of my photos). It doesn't look like there should be a restaurant here, even inside! I think this is just Florida tho, it's an interesting place lol. This quesadilla is more like a BBQ sandwich in a tortilla. It comes with a chipotle ranch dressing to dip the quesadilla in. I like the caprese more, but this is nice. This potato salad is a great side choice! I love potato salad, so I happily upgraded to this. The potatoes are soft enough without being mushy, and their cashew-based mayo does have a nice egg flavor that might come from black salt. This is a fresh take on a Reuben. There is no mock meat here, so this Reuben uses mushrooms to get a meaty texture. This sandwich also has cashew cheese, sauerkraut, pickles, and Russian dressing on their spelt sourdough. I think this was my favorite restaurant dish during this trip to Jacksonville. It's filled with mushroom duxelles juicy tomatoes, red onion, arugula, garlic aioli, basil pesto, pine nuts gouda cheese, and balsamic glaze. All the sandwiches here are on house-made spelt sourdough. They also have gluten free bread options! I'm such a fan of anything caprese. Tomato and basil are such a good, fresh combination. The balsamic makes the sandwich nice and tangy. Highly recommend stopping here and getting the Jax “Philly” Mushroom Cheesesteak with potato salad on the side. I've tried lots of vegan Philly cheesesteaks and this is by far the best one yet.
