This was the fourth and last thing we ordered at Ke Palle, an informal restaurant in Palermo with multiple vegan options to try some traditional Sicilian street food. It was a sandwich filled with the typical panelle (made from chickpea flour) and crocchette (made from potatoes), both deep fried right before ending in the bread. I loved the combination of the bread and these, because I felt it helped with making the dish feel less greasy. It was also a super soft bread which I really enjoyed. This sandwich is pretty small, maybe if you’re considering this place for a whole meal I would suggest pairing this with another dish. Another street food dish I tried at Ke Palle, in Palermo. This coppo has panelle and crocché, the first are made out of chickpeas and fried, and it’s basically the little flat rectangles you can see in the picture, the crocché are the other cylindrical pieces, made from potatoes and fried as well. I got this just out of the frier and because of this it was super hot, I needed to wait a couple of minutes to fully taste it. It was a good treat, but very greasy and unhealthy. This was another amazing vegan arancina from Ke Palle, a street-food restaurant in Palermo on via Marqueda, one of the busiest streets in the center of the city. This time the filling was made with mushrooms and porcini mushrooms, very creamy and flavorful. This arancina, just like the other one I tried was perfectly fried, allowing its shell to be crispy and soft at the same time. The price of this dish was 3.50€. At the moment of my visit these arancine were not available at the counter but upon asking they said they just needed time to fry them, so if during your visit you don’t see them displayed don’t forget to ask for them because maybe it’s just a wait of a couple of minutes and it’s totally worth it! #arancine #arancini #veganarancini #palermo #sicily #streetfood #veganstreetfood

Back in Italy, this time in Palermo and I couldn’t help but try the arancine right away. This place has multiple vegan options for Sicilian street food, including arancine. This version had a vegetable ragù filling, made with different kinds of vegetables including eggplant and tomato. It was super tasty! The exterior shell was crunchy and savory, fried to perfection. Inside the rice and “ragù” filling was delicious and it even had a cheese-like creamy taste, despite having no cheese in it. It’s a very informal place, on a busy street with just a couple of tables with stools where you can eat, don’t expect an actual restaurant.
