This was a rich, thick, and creamy roasted peanut butter and aromatic AKâDI tomato stew with spices, veggies including pumpkin, carrots, and cabbage, and hearty and nourishing millet tempeh. I finally had the pleasure of visiting Akadi at their new location since their move from NE MLK St. The new space is big with lots of light. ☀️ All of their hanging plants are beautiful. 🌱 This dish was incredible for any mushroom lover. 🍄 It consists of a mix of mushrooms grilled and blackened to perfection, with a peanut suya seasoning. The menu lists onion and tomato, but we did not see those, perhaps they marinate the mushrooms before grilling(?) I finally had the pleasure of visiting Akadi at their new SE location since moving from NE MLK St. The new space is big with lots of light. ☀️ All of their hanging plants are beautiful. 🌱 Akadi’s vegan West African dish known as Veggies Yassa is my most favorite vegan dish they offer. It consists of zucchini, sweet potato or possibly carrot (?) 🥕 🍠 , regular potato 🥔, and caramelized onions, all cooked in a mustard sauce and served with rice. If you want to change the rice to fufu it costs $3. The mustard sauce is hard to describe, but it’s sooo incredibly tasty with a comforting flavor (it’s nothing like yellow mustard). This was actually the Joloff meal, with the black-eyed peas stew. The rice was good, tomatoey, but needed salt. I’m not a fan of plantains, so can’t tell you about those. The slaw was meh. But the stew was the star! Really flavorful, seasoned well, reminded me of chili. I really enjoyed this! The vibe of Akadi was great, open air feel, African music playing. Their plates are wooden in the shape of the African continent, which I thought was clever. My only complaint is that even though I had reserved a table, I was seated at the bar. There were plenty of small two-seat tables available during the entirety of my visit, so I was miffed about that.

Really loved these samosas. Pretty substantial, one was plenty. The dipping sauce was tangy, peppery, but not too spicy. The lentil filling was delicious, and the pastry crisp and flaky. I’d order these again.
