Amazing flavours and variety in this authentic homemade Ethiopian food platter. Perfect for sharing/family-style dinning. There are different sizes of platters available, but I recommend going with a large group to be able to taste many different things.
Pero is the street-level sister restaurant to Selam, an all vegan Ethiopian restaurant that recently closed. Pero offers all of the same foods that Selam did, but either as a la carte or a platter, not as a buffet like Selam had. In Ethiopian style, the platter is covered with a large sheet of injera, a teff-based spongy delight that is used to scoop up food on the platter to eat. It adds an earthy flavour to all of the dishes. There are platters for 2, 3, 4, etc. people each with an increasing number of dishes. Dishes are made from ingredients like squash, carrots, beans, chick peas, okra, mushrooms, lentils, flax seed, sweet potatoes, etc. Favourite items would include the mushroom, yellow split pea, collard greens and sweet potato dishes. Dishes are separated on the platter by rolls of injera. All are very flavourful, and at least to me, feel like "comfort food". The platter shown has 8 items plus the injera and salad. It easily fed three very hungry adults and would probably be fine for 4. #animalsnow
