I grew up helping my mum pounded the lemongrass, candle nuts, garlic, onions, ginger, blue ginger, chilli padi, big chilli, dried prawns & belacan using the mortal & pestle. I have unfair high expectations from Coco Veggie. It is a lot of hard work for my elder mum to prepare. She doesn’t use mortal & pestle now. She uses the blender which is faster & easier too. Yet, the veganised Laksa paste she makes is always so good. It wasn’t easy to veganise Peranakan food, & I was so happy when I saw Coco Veggie being reviewed! This restaurant definitely has raving reviews! I even add that to my list of Places to Visit. At last, I can eat Peranakan as and when I like it! I finally dine at this restaurant. I ordered the Superior Singapore Laksa. My first impression was the the stone bowl. Impressive. At first, I thought it was heated up to keep the food warm, but realised later, that it isn’t, but just a normal stone ware. When I taste the Laksa gravy which is the key ingredient, it just lacks the depth. The wow factor is missing. My children said, “Grandma’s is way much better.” @veganhubby agreed too. The serving is HUGE, & I was overly stuffed to my dissatisfaction. Prices at $15.33 (with 10% service charge & current 8% GST), I would much prefer the portion to be smaller & price lower. The #veganLaksa contains the usual fried bean curd puff, bean curd, bean spouts, Laksa leaves, & mock prawns. Is this the best Laksa in Singapore? I would say GreenDot Laksa is still #1. Hop over to my previous review & compare the photos & reviews, you will see the reason.
