Hot Cakes serves molten chocolate cakes at their restaurants, but also sells frozen ones you
can “take and bake” at home. There is one vegan option. It comes with a vegan caramel sauce and chopped nuts on the side. It’s a cute idea, however, I just don’t think the directions are clear enough to execute it well. There are two (or four) cakes in a pack, so the first one we tried the dome never got to the “done” illustration on the instructions, and I think we overcooked it. The second time, I pulled it out and the inside was WAY too gooey, like, uncooked, so we put it back in for a few minutes but both times it was beyond what the instructions said was necessary. Also both times, it was sort of just like a brownie. Maybe a little bit gooier on the inside, but mostly just a brownie. The caramel sauce was also too burnt-tasting to me. Everything at Hot Cakes is a bit pricey, so this just wouldn’t be worth it to me to buy again.
