🍛 Battle of Hainanese Roast Chicken Rice - Rice House vs 33 Vegetarian..haha both my

favourite!
🍛 Both look equally good when served up but Rice House survived better when recooked for take away
🍛 Rice House staff attitude beats 33 Veg as the uncle is always smiley & humourous
🍛 Not fair to compare ambience as Rice House is a cafe and 33 Veg is a hawker stall
🍛 Price wise both are great
🍛 The roast chicken are from the same soy supplier I suspect as they look the same. Both are fried and chopped up
🍛 The Rice House chicken has a more crispy skin and it held together vs 33 Veg chicken skin and meat fell apart, possibly because it is chopped more thin.
🍛 Rice House rice is better as it does have the real chicken rice taste of ginger and slight pandan. 33 Veg rice is plain
🍛 Both have fresh cucumber & tomato slices. Rice House wins with additional achar (nonya pickle) which layers the entire palette with sweet sour & spicy. So delectable!
🍛 But 33 Veg chillie sauce wins hands down...literally no competition there!! Rice House chillie is nicely spicy and bit vinegarish...ok on its own until in battle...
🍛 I will still order from both. But Rice House duck rice far beats its chicken rice. And 33 Veg Set A combo of roast & white chicken rice is the best as it comes with ginger sauce & green veg.
🍛 S$4.50 Rice House vs S$3 33 Veg

Rice:
It was fragrant and savory. The taste was good as it's own thing, but I wouldn't say it's great chicken rice rice. I was not a fan of the texture too. Rice was kinda broken up (as seen in pic), almost felt like I was eating cous cous.

Chicken:
They used rolled beancurd skin as the chicken. Pretty average beancurd skin hahaha~ I felt like it would've been nice if they were able to make the skin crispy.

Overall, a bit of an underwhelming dish. Not mad at it, though. They were generous with the rice, and the dish was affordable. Kinda wished they had a small bowl of clear soup to go with the large portion of rice.

Price: $4.50

I once had veg chicken rice from the veg stall that was once in Tampines Mall's Kopitiam and that was so good, I think my expectations have been raised very high hahaha ಥ‿ಥ (Pls drop the name in the comments if you know their name! Iirc, they are still in business, just relocated.)

The chicken is flavourful and the rice is fragrant. The chilli is spicy enough and

the portion is average.
