I'm in two minds really. On the plus side, this was delicious. They even used

tofu cubes and oyster mushroom, which are both awesome. On the other hand, char kuey teow really isn't char kuey teow if it's not fried in lard. This was a childhood favourite of mine and often I'd really rather just forgo the whole thing entirely than get a vegetarian one and have to deal with the nostalgia

This vegan Char kway teow ē‚’ē²æę¢is packed with flavours and so full of ā€œwok heiā€!!



Char kway teow is delish, flavourful and ā€œenergeticā€ The ā€œbossā€ has been frying the char kway teow for over 40 years now in his little stall, and interestingly he is not vegan nor vegetarian. He was actually making the non vegan version for quite some time, until one day a vegetarian/vegan(unknown) ā€œbig bossā€ took over the whole cafeteria and remodelled it to a vegetarian eatery so he had to come up with this vegan version to stay in business at the same old spot.

This dish had blew my mind during my visit in KL 2 years ago. However,

I realised the taste wasn't the same during this visit. The kuey teow doesn't taste as smooth, also kind of clump together. I also don't taste any "wok hei" from this dish this time, kinda disappointed. Hopefully the main chef was just taking a break and the one who fried this is just a relieve chef.


Overall it is quite similar to other Fried kuay throw from other stalls. Make sure

you guys inform the cook for vegetarian without egg as some customer like to have fried egg on top of their noodles

It lacks #wokhei and as a #kuching lang who lived in #penang for 5 years raised on my Foochow auntā€™s cooking & am at present also dating a #foochow thatā€™s a non-negotiable šŸ˜‚

The got the rest of the flavours right though. Itā€™s got as good an #umami kick as #alliumfree food can get & the toppings are definitely creative. The cubed #tofu is a nice touch but the #oystermushroom strips are definitely a first time for me šŸ„

The #taugeh and pinch of mustard greens are standard too šŸ¤ Remember to #droptheegg when ordering this because some patrons do prefer their meal with a touch of torment šŸ£

I just prefer to keep my mine to myself. Oh, but the #cilipadi I had to add to this was as mild as ever too.

This was the most recommended dish on google, so I had to try it! It

truly was a bomb fried noodles! Probably one of the best noodle dishes Iā€™ve had in a long time! The various grilled mushrooms were what really elevated it. It was somewhat reminiscent of a pad Thai, but with more developed flavours.
